Minnesota continues to lead the way in player development! 

MN Men in NCAA D1: 219 players (214 played HS Hockey, 164 played senior year which is higher than the second state, and 58 were non-metro).

MI Men in NCAA D1: 162 players

MA Men in NCAA D1: 130 players

NY Men in NCAA D1: 94 players

IL Men in NCAA D1: 53 players

NHL Stats

67 NHLers in the 2022-23 season were from Minnesota (beating the record set the previous year at 65). 59 played high school hockey including the following schools: Chisago Lakes, South St. Paul, Brainerd, Hopkins, Rogers, Cloquet, East Grand Forks, Baudette, Forest Lake and Delano.

The next highest state has not surpassed 50 NHLers in a season.

MN population 5,700,000 = 67 players

MI population 10,000,000 = 37 players

MA population 7,000,000 = 32 players

NY population 19,400,000 = 30 players

 

Draft Facts

- Minnesota has led or tied all states for most players drafted for the last 8 years.

- Minnesota has had the most players drafted of any state since 2000, with 302 Minnesotans selected by NHL teams.

- With 302 players drafted, Minnesota has made up 23% of all American-born players who have been drafted since 2000.

- 2023 is the second straight year that two Minnesotans have been drafted in the first round.

- 2023 is the third straight year that two high school teammates have been selected in the same draft.

- Since 2000, there have been ten or more Minnesotans drafted in 18 of the 23 NHL Drafts. In three of the other drafts, nine Minnesotans were selected.

- 13 different non-profit community associations were represented in the 2023 draft.
