Moorhead’s Jon Ammerman in Class 2A and Hibbing/Chisholm’s Aaron Jamnick in Class 1A were named the state’s coaches of the year on Saturday by the Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association.

Ammerman, in his 12th season leading the Spuds, guided Moorhead to a 28-2-1 record this season that included a 7-6 victory against Stillwater on Saturday in the state Class 2A championship game. The state title is the first in the program's history.

Jamnick, in his first year at Hibbing/Chisholm, led the Blue Jackets to a 20-11-0 record and fourth-place finish in the state Class 1A tournament.

"First off, I want to congratulate both Jon and Aaron, along with their respective teams on the success they enjoyed this season," said Aaron Wilbur, founder of The Coaches Site, sponsor of the award. "Furthermore, my pride in supporting this award and recognition of these coaches is enhanced by the opportunity to take in the state tournament in-person.

"The collective skill and talent on display by these players is remarkable and a direct reflection of the passion and commitment of Jon, Aaron, their peers leading High School programs across the State, along with all the youth coaches in Minnesota."

Greg Pogreba and Steve Houge of St. Paul Johnson in Class 2A and Scott Cloud of Northfield and Cory Ward of Proctor in Class 1A were named assistant coaches of the year.

Coaches of the year and assistant coaches of the year were also named in all eight Class 1A and 2A sections by the MHCA.
