Sponsor: Minnesota High School Hockey Coaches Association
Purpose
To recognize hockey players as students and to promote the importance of being good students as well as good athletes.
To recognize each Sectional Champion and their academic excellent as well as present the “A” and “AA” State Champion with trophies on TV during the State Tournament. To provide good public relations for high school hockey, its schools, players, coaches, and communities.
The MHCA was the first sports association to actively support the notion of recognition for both athletic and academic excellence.
Rules
Select all 20 players from your Sectional Tournament roster. This is players only, NOT student managers, statisticians, etc. The top 15 players will be used for the initial grade point totals with the remaining 5 used to break ties.
List the name and grade point average through the first semester of this school year. All GPAs are based on the 4.0 system with no weighted grades or advanced/college prep courses receiving additional points.
The highest composite 15-member team will be their SECTIONAL ADADEMIC CHAMPION. The 8 Sectional Champions in each respective class will then be compared against each other with the highest composite team GPA becoming the STATE ACADEMIC CHAMPION.
