Six teams will converge on the Xcel Energy Center this week to battle for the Broadmoor Trophy and an automatic berth in the 2013 NCAA Championship.

Those six teams carry a combined 157 players on their rosters with 59 players having their roots in Minnesota High School hockey (37.6 percent).

The 59 players represent 43 high school programs with Edina and Holy Angels leading the way with four former players each competing.

"The Minnesota high school model is always on proud display during the WCHA playoffs," MHCA President Ken Pauly said. "This year is no different. It’s no accident that the top college tournaments in the country feature so many players with their roots in our communities and Minnesota high school hockey."

The list of 59 players also includes two Mr. Hockey Award winners (Kyle Rau, Eden Prairie, 2011; Nick Bjugstad, Blaine, 2010) and two Frank Brimsek Award winners (Zane Gothberg, Thief River Falls, 2010; Joe Phillippi, Hill-Murray, 2008).

Minnesota leads the the six WCHA schools with 23 of its 26 student-athletes having played Minnesota high school hockey. St. Cloud State features 14 Minnesotan student-athletes on its roster while Minnesota State, North Dakota and Wisconsin each have six and Colorado College has four.

Of the 59 Minnesotans, 25 have been selected in the National Hockey League draft.
