Stanley Cup champion Leddy leads list of Minnesota invitees

Paul Martin has played for three USA Men's National Teams and was chosen for the 2010 USA Olympic team but did not play due to injury.

Ten of the 48 players invited to USA Hockey's Men's National Team orientation camp have ties to Minnesota high school hockey.

The camp is scheduled for Aug. 26-27, at Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Arlington, Va., and is designed to assist in preparation for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, set for Feb. 7-23, 2014, in Sochi, Russia.

Leading the group are four Mr. Hockey Award winners in Paul Martin (Elk River, 2000), Ryan McDonagh (Cretin-Derham Hall, 2007), Nick Leddy (Eden Prairie, 2009) and Nick Bjugstad (Blaine, 2010).

Leddy helped the Chicago Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup this season as well.

Three other players graduated from their Minnesota high school programs: David Backes (Spring Lake Park, 2002), T.J. Oshie (Warroad, 2005) and Jake Gardiner (Minnetonka, 2008), each of whom was a Mr. Hockey finalist.

Bjugstad and Oshie were members of the bronze medal-winning U.S. Men's National Team at the 2013 International Ice Hockey Feder World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden.
